About Us
About North Shore Arts Collective
At the North Shore Arts Collective, we like to think of ourselves as equal parts community hub, creative playground, and slightly chaotic family reunion (but with more paintbrushes and fewer awkward conversations). Our mission is simple: bring people together through art. Whether it’s a gallery opening, a community mural, or a jazz night that somehow turns into spoken word, we’re here for it. We believe art should be less about velvet ropes and hushed voices, and more about laughter, connection, and the occasional paint splatter on your shoes. From seasoned professionals to wide-eyed beginners, everyone’s welcome to pull up a chair—or an easel—and join the fun.
Of course, not everything is all glitter glue and applause. Running an arts collective means we occasionally argue about the correct number of string lights for an exhibition (spoiler: it’s always more). But at the heart of it all is a shared belief that creativity makes life better. We want our events to feel like a neighbour inviting you over—not intimidating, just inspiring. Think of us as your slightly eccentric but well-meaning friend who insists you try pottery at least once in your life. So if you’ve been looking for a space to see something new, meet kindred spirits, or simply drink coffee while pretending to understand abstract art, you’ve found your people. Welcome to the Collective—we saved you a seat.
Departments & Directors
The North Shore Arts Collective may look like an unruly gathering of artists armed with paint, clay, and musical instruments, but behind the creative whirlwind is a small team that keeps the lights on (and the grant applications filed on time). Our Department of Organization wrangles schedules, our Department of Inspiration keeps ideas flowing, and our Department of Snacks ensures that no meeting goes longer than the hummus supply. While the titles are playful, the work is serious: connecting the community with the arts in meaningful, accessible ways.
At the helm are our directors, who balance vision with practicality (and occasionally referee debates about whether glitter counts as a legitimate art medium). They come from backgrounds in galleries, performance, and education, and they share a belief that creativity should be as natural as a cup of coffee with a friend. Their leadership keeps us moving forward, whether it’s planning a major exhibition, welcoming new artists, or finding clever ways to stretch a budget. In short, they make sure the Collective runs like a well-oiled paintbrush.
